Burbank Tournament of Roses Association

Open House and Craft Faire

Who is the Burbank Tournament of Roses Association?

The Burbank Tournament of Roses Association is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that designs, builds and decorates the City of Burbank's entry into the annual Rose Parade® held on New Year’s morning in Pasadena, California.

What is this event? (why)

Being an all-volunteer organization, we rely on donations and fundraising to run the organization and to build/decorate the float.  One of our major fundraisers and community awareness events is an annual Open House and Craft Faire.  We coordinate this event to take place on the first Saturday in October.  It’s also that same date that we have our first inspection by Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association Parade Officials and test drive of the new float.  This is an exciting date in the float building process as the float’s super structure is about 50% complete and it’s the first time the float is taken out on the street for a road test.  This inspection happens very early in the morning and finishes before we start setting up for the Open House and Craft Faire.

Facilities:

The float site is a 6,000 sq ft building (60’ x 100’) however due to mezzanines and other structures; we have almost 2,000 sq ft of open floor space that will be used to house the Craft Faire portion of this event.  The float display and some food vendors will be housed immediately outside the float building.

The building is very tall.  The walls are 35 feet tall with skylights to provide natural lighting.  We also use metal-halide white lights to make the inside of the building daylight bright.

The building does not have any heaters or air conditioning.  While it is fully insulated, depending on the weather, it may get warm or cool.  You should dress accordingly.

To allow for maximum pedestrian traffic, we have a large (22’ wide x 15’ tall) rollup door that will be kept open.

The building does include two unisex accessible restrooms.

Across from our main float building is another covered area that we will utilize for vendor space.

We have an onsite soda machine.  Drinks are .75 cents each.

Event Layout:

Outside, we will be displaying the new float’s progress.  If possible, we may run animation shows.  We will also have most food vendors located outside.

Inside will be the main event and where all table vendors will be located.  Also inside, we have a permanent Souvenir Shoppe where we will be selling float merchandise, which includes shirts, pins, patches, postcards and much more.

We will be running various additional fundraisers which may include raffles, silent auctions and 50/50 drawings.

We will provide plastic 8 (or 4) foot tables covered with cloth table cloths, along with two chairs per table.

We do have electric power available—please let us know if you need 110 or 220 VAC electric power.
