Burbank Tournament of Roses Association
General Meeting
Minutes
May 15, 2008
President John Hames called the meeting to order at 7:40 PM.
There were 20 members present, including 4 officers and 2 directors.
Robert Symons led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes of April 17, 2008 meeting approved as read.
Treasurer's Report: Our combined balance as of the end of last month
is $123,178.64. We received a $1000 grant from Time Warner thanks to
Steve Edward. We also got $94.37 from Ralphs. Otherwise, a pretty
quiet month.
President's Report: Burbank on Parade: Was a very hot day. We won a
trophy. Not a very good placement for our merchandise sales. Our
display in the historical museum needs updating. The car show the
next day was hit and miss; mostly people came by when we started the
animation engine.
Liaison's Report: There was an issue with the water bill. The eye wash was
left running. We won't have to pay for it because of our electrical
conservation -- but it's confusing, because the actual bill doesn't
show a large use of water. Maybe it was all a misinterpreted
joke. Still a leak in the water fountain, a leak in the sprinklers,
a burned out light, and now the air compressor is not working, which
prevents using the plasma cutter. All these problems will get fixed
while the chassis is in for service.
Committee Reports:
- Burbank on Parade: We took first place in Float Civic. The trophy
and photos were displayed at the meeting; some photos are also online.
- Design: The "final" line drawing was released. Major changes: The
pod shape was finalized, the film strip was removed and replaced
with various refreshment items, the title was changed. Now deco
will start meetings. Construction is starting on scale
drawings. Once deco is done, we can create the color rendering. The
biggest concern is that the T. Rex is 28-30 feet tall, and his
nose is 8-12 feet long; we need to figure out how we'll get it
out the door.
- Construction: The chassis has been stripped, ready for service.
- Deco: Will have a kickoff meeting soon -- aiming for May 24, possibly
by email.
Officers' Reports:
- VP Admin: The May CPK fundraiser was tonight. The next one will be
June 19. The next newsletter should go out the first week of June.
- VP Float: Sent an apology check for missing the board meeting. He is
working on new number stickers for the lockers.
Old Business:
- We changed scrap steel vendors. The old bin has been picked up;
the new bin is already full.
- We also changed web hosting companies. The only noticeable change
should be better performance.
New Business:
- Self-built picnic this Sunday at the Sierra Madre barn, 1:00. Potluck:
bring salad, chips, or dessert.
- Cindy Symons is an Avon representative, and will donate 15-25% of
orders placed through her to BToRA.
- Linda Cozakos reminded us that Memorial Day is our Domino's fundraiser
day.
- Glendale's design was passed around; their MI is this week.
Announcements:
- Downey had the copper wiring near them stolen. The city paid $100,000
and Downey Rose Float paid about $20,000 to restore power.
- Sierra Madre helped the firefighting efforts near their barn by providing
storage for ice and cold water.
- We will agree to host the self built picnic next year.
Meeting adjourned at 8:12 PM.
Respectfully submitted, Jon Reeves, Secretary.
